Christopher C. Betts, Jr., 85 of Rhodesdale passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 25, 1927 and was a son of the late Christopher C. Betts, Sr. and Ida Lowe Betts.
He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1944. Mr. Betts served in the U.S. Army during the end of WWII. On October 11, 1974, he married the former Geraldine Wilkerson. He worked for C & P Telephone Company and retired in 1979. Mr. Betts enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, wood working, gardening, crabbing and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Hurlock American Legion Post 264, the Telephone Pioneers and Salem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine Betts of Rhodesdale, two daughters and a son from his previous marriage to Gloria Mowbray, Christine Kidd and husband Jim of Cambridge, Sharon Tortello and husband Vernon of Woolford and Mark C. Betts and companion Rhonda Vickers of Rhodesdale, a stepson Robert Thomas of Pocomoke, five grandchildren Brian Majors, Stephen Bloodsworth, Adam Tortello, Scott Betts and Teresa Betts, seven great grandchildren, a sister Sylvia Hollerman of East New Market and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Betts is preceded in death by three sisters Lillian Ireland, Ida Goodrow and Janice Blades.
Pallbearers will be Brian Majors, Stephen Bloodsworth, Adam Tortello, Jamie Majors, Jim Kidd and Jimmy Harding. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Tortello, Jimmy and Brian Harding and Bobby Thomas.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Christina Blake officiating. Interment will follow on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Pocomoke, Maryland. Family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
