Raymond S. Loyd, 86, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 atUMSMC at Dorchester. Born in Curtisville, PA on December 29, 1930, he was the son of the late Lieutenant Hopson Loyd and the former Mary Ann Zacheryl.

Mr. Loyd enjoyed 45 years of married life with his bride, the former Elma Frances McGinn, who passed away on August 24, 1993. Together, they raised 4 daughters and a son, with whom they enjoyed traveling and camping all over the country. Mr. Loyd was employed for 35 years by the E.I. DuPont Company at its Seaford, Delaware facility, where nylon was first created.   He rose from an entry level position to become a Supervisor of Works Engineering. During his tenure, he designed a modification to existing machinery that allowed a newer type of nylon to go into production successfully.

Mr. Loyd’s passion for engineering was evident throughout his life. Affectionately known as “Big Ray”, he was the one friends and family turned to for help if anything from an automobile to a television needed a fix.  Ray took every hobby to a level of excellence, whether it was hunting, photography, boating, woodworking, or cooking. He was a private pilot, a motorcycle and camping enthusiast, and a gardener extraordinaire. Mr. Loyd has been a  member of the Choptank Tribe RV Club, the Retreads Motorcycle Club, the Cambridge Jaycees, the 25 Year Club of DuPont,  and The Holy Name Society of  the Catholic Church. He continued to attend his Friday Night Men’s Club until his death.

Mr. Loyd had a creative mind, a superior work ethic, and a great sense of humor. He willbe remembered as a wonderful provider, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather as well as a loyal friend to many.
