East New Market

Genevieve Burton Cannon, 85, of East New Market passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Andrews on September 6, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Russell Woodrow Burton and Lucille Bradford Burton.

Genevieve attended Cambridge High School and graduated with the class of 1956.  On September 16, 1960, she married the love of her life, H. Rodney Cannon and just celebrated 63 years of marriage.  She spent her working years in banking, insurance, and finally part time at the Board of Elections.  Mrs. Cannon loved God and was a Baptist.  She and her husband, Rodney, spent many years volunteering their time with the Cambridge Moose Lodge.  She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the Eastern Star.  Her greatest love was her family, spending time at her “home away from home” in Chincoteague for many years, playing cards, but most especially her grandchildren, Cody and Jordan.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Cannon, her daughter Julie Lewis and husband Fred, grandchildren Cody Lewis and Jordan Lewis, sister-in laws Anna Mae Wallace, Dinah Early, Gail McClain and husband Bob; brother-in laws Jon Cannon and wife Jean, Bill Cannon and wife Kitty, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, Mrs. Cannon is preceded in death by a son, Rodney “Woody” Cannon, a sister Wanda Lee Pulley, sister-in-laws Beverly Ruark, Louise Gulick, and Harriett Wanex; brother-in laws Bryant Cannon and Frederick Cannon.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 2pm at Dorchester Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD  21802.
