Carolyn Setterholm Tinsley, 66, of Halethorpe, formerly of Linkwood, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Ascension St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. She was born in Newport News, VA on November 20, 1956 to the late James Alvin Setterholm and Frances “Lucille” Simmons.
Carolyn attended schools in Mechanicsville, VA. On December 17, 1977, she married William McCray Tinsley, who passed away on June 28, 2010. Carolyn was a homemaker. She loved her family and her cats. Carolyn loved being outside, whether it was working in the garden or tinkering and building things. She was a fan of any kind of new technology and would love to figure out how to work it. She also enjoyed reading cozy mysteries, as well as listening to audiobooks, shopping, traveling, and any kind of live music or live theater. Carolyn and William used to enjoy watching NASCAR together, especially rooting for Jeff Gordon. With her daughters, she loved to drive around and count how many cars they could find with Christmas trees on top, last year getting up to 66.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters Debra Ann Tinsley and Lisa Marie Tinsley, both of Halethorpe; her brothers Peyton Roden, Jr. and Edwin Roden, and his wife Melissa, all of Mechanicsville, VA; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Carolyn is preceded in death by her sister Ann Setterholm Taylor, brother James Alvin Setterholm, Jr., and her stepfather Harold Thomas Simmons.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Roden, Caleb Roden, Peyton Roden, Jr., Patrick Roden, Krystle Hester, and Judson Burkhalter.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD at 1 PM with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service at East New Market Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
