Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother

Barbara, a source of love, compassion, and unwavering strength, left us on Monday, September 21, 2026. Born on November 18, 1944, she touched our lives in immeasurable ways. Barbara was a member of the Souls Harbor Church of God.

As her children; Rhonda Owens (Johnnie) of Salisbury, Brian Fitzhugh (Rhonda) of Seaford and Jamie Fitzhugh (Karen) of Woolford witnessed her boundless love and selflessness. Barbara always prioritized her children’s needs, providing comfort and guidance during challenging times. Her loved shaped us profoundly.

Barbara’s (known as Nana to all) role as a grandmother to her nine grandchildren; Jordan Mitchell (Jennifer), Kaitlyn Rathel (Jason), Kara McDowell (Travis), Aubree Fitzhugh, Joshua Gosnay, Madison Bushrod, Madison Fitzhugh, Trey Fitzhugh (Dajoura) and Morgan Fitzhugh and eleven great-grandchildren brought her immense joy. She showered her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love, creating cherished memories they will forever hold dear.

Beyond being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister to Fred Burton (Patty) of Greensboro, Barbara was a dear friend to many. Her kindness and empathy touched lives, offering support and wise counsel. Her presence brought comfort to those in need,

We gather to celebrate Barbara’s life on Tuesday, September 29 during a graveside service held at Dorchester Memorial Park at 1 PM with Pastor Tyler Collins officiating.
