Barbara Levenia Short Knauer Hurley was born February 28, 1940 in Cambridge, MD. She passed away December 31, 2025, at her home in Salem, MD, where she had lived since March 21, 1959 and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Wilkerson Short.
Barbara graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1958 with 12 years perfect attendance.
On March 21, 1959 she married Lawrence Knauer, who passed away November 9, 1990.
In the late 50's, early 60's she worked as a bookkeeper at J.M. Clayton. In the late 80's to 1990, she worked as an assistant postmaster at Linkwood Post Office. She along with her husband farmed since they were married in 1959.
On November 4, 1995, she married Edward Hurley, who passed away August 5, 2015.
She enjoyed quilting, bird watching, looking for Indian artifacts, traveling, and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in East New Market, Salem United Methodist Church in Salem and a honorary member of Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Price and her husband Vance Price, Sr. of Salem, grandchildren Courtney Stack and husband Stephen of Salem, Vance Price, Jr. (Shelby) of Vienna, and Victoria Price (Kylee) of Secretary, great grandchildren Vance Price III, Emmalyn Stack, Savannah Price, and Calvin Stack, Godson Stephen Tolley (Stacie) of East New Market, a sister Virginia Tolley and husband David of East New Market, sister in laws Flora Luthy of Cambridge, June Short of Salem and Lula Short of Federalsburg, brother in law George Myers of Pembroke, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers George, Roger, Willie and Harry and sisters Anna Short, Carolyn Short, Mary Wiggins and Nora Myers.
Pallbearers will be Vance Price, Jr (grandson), Vance Price, III (great grandson), Stephen Stack (grandson in law), Stephen Tolley (godson) and nephews Brian Tolley, Adam Tolley and Billy Short.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 1pm at Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, MD with Mr. David Tolley officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
