Barry W. Vickers

Barry W. Vickers, 77, of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. He was born in Cambridge on June 19, 1941 and was a son of the late of John F. Vickers, Jr. and Hedwig Weber Vickers.

He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1959 and he also attended University of Maryland College Park. Mr. Vickers served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. On June 10, 1977, he married the former Bernice Adkins. He worked and retired from Salisbury Steel. Mr. Vickers was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Mid-Shore Fishing Club, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Salisbury VFW Post 194, and the American Legion Post 459.

He is survived by his wife Bernice Vickers of Salisbury, a son George W. Vickers and wife Paula of Fruitland and a daughter Melody Vickers-Dean and husband Ricky of Willards, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Vickers is preceded in death by a daughter Heidi Johanson, a great granddaughter, a nephew, father in law and mother in law Woodrow W. Adkins and Blanche Wilkins Adkins, a brother John Vickers III and wife Gloria, and a sister Jean Porter.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 11 am at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery with Mr. Robert Lawrence officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
