Carolyn I. Todd, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at her home. She was born on October 17, 1940 in Golden Hill and was a daughter of the late Robert Alvin Insley and Lavinia Elzey Insley.
Mrs. Todd graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1958 and then was the first secretary at the school working there until 1963. On June 23, 1963 she married W. Arthur Todd. She received additional business training at the Jefferson School of Commerce in Salisbury and has taken courses at Chesapeake College, Salisbury State University, Washington College and Delaware Technical and Community College. Mrs. Todd was a secretary at the Board of Education office in Cambridge for 15 years. She and her husband, Arthur, moved to Latrobe, PA for several years where they were involved in a business venture and then returned to Cambridge. After returning Mrs. Todd worked for the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service for 15 years. She also worked part time for Dorchester County Commissioners, Dorchester County Department of Social Services and with the First Steps program. Later, Mrs. Todd was elected to the Orphans Court with 28 years of service. She enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, and reading. She a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1963 serving as treasurer, Counting Committee, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Mrs. Todd was also a member of Professional Secretaries International, Dorchester Arts Center, Dorchester Historical Society, Friends of Blackwater, Old Trinity Association and the Retired Educators Association.
She is survived by her husband W. Arthur Todd of Cambridge, a son Howard W. Todd and wife Allie, three grandchildren Maysie Elizabeth Todd, William James Todd and Henry Edward Todd, two brothers Robert Insley and wife Linda of Golden Hill and Jim Insley and wife Sharon of Cambridge, sister in law Phyllis and Henry Cook, a cousin Carol Ann Brohawn and husband Gary and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jim Pokrandt, James David Wheatley, Robert Insley, Gary Brohawn, Greg Whitten and Blake Whitten.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 1pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 205 Maryland Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.
