Doris Brooks Brashier

Doris Brooks Brashier, born July 30, 1945, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 16, 2024, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Anna Mae Brooks of Church Creek, her brother Bobby Brooks, also of Church Creek and her husband, Leo Brashier from New Bern North Carolina.

She leaves behind her Sister-in-Law, Deanna Brooks, her nieces Bonnie Brooks Hughes (Scott) and Barbi Stack (Steve), a god son Rob Kramer and a dear friend Dal Insley, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Doris was born and raised in Dorchester County where she attended public school and graduated from Cambridge High School.  After graduation she worked as an office secretary at several local businesses, the longest being Heckler Motor Parts.  She lived her whole life in the town of Church Creek where she met her late husband, Lee Brashier while he was hunting on the family farm.

After marrying Lee, Doris moved to the Western Shore for a short time before building a home in New Bern, North Carolina, where she lived for 20 years.

After the death of her husband in North Carolina, Doris moved back to Church Creek where she bought a home in the city limits. Several years ago, she left that home and moved to Egypt Road where she lived with her niece, Bonnie, on the Brooks Family Home Place where she was raised for the first 4 years of her life. The last 5 months of her life were spent at the Mallard Bay Rehab and Nursing Facility due to health problems and her final days were spent at Salisbury Hospice at The Lake.

She was the Church Secretary and Treasurer at Cambridge Wesleyan Church for several years after returning home. She volunteered at Maple Elementary School for events and “The Good News Club” held weekly. She loved all animals and caring for the horses, chickens, dogs and cats on the farm.  She also enjoyed gardening, canning, cutting grass and was an amazing quilter, but her real passion was for people and her selfless giving touched many.

There will be a celebration of life held on Friday, April 26th at 3pm at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church, on the corner of Race and Washington Streets in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
