Freddie R. Doege, 78, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at his home on Bucktown Road, surrounded by his loving family and his loyal dog, Boo. He was born in Cambridge on January 7, 1947, and was the son of the late Freddie A. and Rosalie Twilley Doege.
Freddie graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1965, where his athleticism and love of sports shone early on. He was looking forward to celebrating his 60th class reunion this year. After high school, he went on to play football at North Carolina State University before transferring closer to home to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Baltimore. On July 10, 1992, he married the love of his life, Mary (Jones) Doege, and together they had their brown-eyed girl, Meaghan.
Over the years, Freddie worked on the family farm, owned Bay Country Nautilus for 13 years, and held several other roles that reflected his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Known fondly as “The Prince of Bucktown,” Freddie had a larger-than-life personality and a heart just as big. He was famous for throwing the best parties in his barn, his love for sports cars—especially his many Corvettes—and his signature “Nauti1” license plate that everyone recognized around town. He also had a true passion for bartending and could mix up just about any drink you wanted, but he was especially known for making the best Bloody Marys around.
A proud fan of the Chicago Bears, Freddie loved watching football with his grandson Carter, even when they were cheering for rival teams. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, cheering Avianna on through her years of competitive dance and Carter through countless baseball and soccer games. He couldn’t have been prouder of the life and family his daughter Meaghan built with her husband Joshua, and he loved them all beyond measure.
Freddie’s love for his family ran deep, and he was endlessly proud of each and every one of them. His strength, humor, and presence will be remembered always.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary L. Doege, his daughter Meaghan Hernandez and her husband Josh, his beloved grandchildren Carter and Avianna Hernandez, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his brother William Doege, his sister Florence Murphy, and his nephews Freddie Murphy, Richard “Ricky” Murphy, and Robert Murphy.
A celebration of Freddie’s life will be held at a later date.
“The Prince of Bucktown has taken his final ride, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.”
