George W. Hanson, Jr

George W. Hanson, Jr., 88, of East New Market passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was in Cambridge on March 19, 1924 and was the son of the late George W. Hanson, Sr. and Mable Hoffman Hanson.

He attended and graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1943. In 1953, he married the former Barbara Tallman who passed away on January 3, 1995. Mr. Hanson operated a dairy farm and drove a school bus for his father until 1957. After, which he worked for C.W. Thomas and Sons. He then worked for Southern State Cambridge Service until retiring in 1986. Later, Mr. Hanson worked for Mark's Hardware and drove a school bus for Teddy Bramble and his last job was working for E.S. Hubbert's in Cambridge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hurlock, a charter member of Dorchester Ruritan Club in Cambridge, which he started in 1965. Mr. Hanson served as president many times for the club. He worked on many successful fundraisers and how the money was used in the community.

He is survived by his two sons Charles W. Hanson and wife Charlotte of Cambridge and David Hanson, Sr. of East New Market, three grandchildren Christie E. Wheatley, David W. Hanson, Jr. and Heather L. Hanson, two great grandchildren Jack Roe and Garrett Roe, his close friend El Doris Graham of East New Market, a nephew Robbie Hanson and several other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Hanson is preceded in death by a brother Harold Hanson and sister in law Betty Hanson Abbott.

Pallbearers will be Robert Wheatley, Robert Hanson, Lucas Hanson, Scott Hanson, Brian Butcher and Richard Starling. Honorary pallbearers will be Dickey Elzey, Elmer Willey, Frank Knauer, Leon Peters, William Lewis, Jack Seabrease, Jim Lewis, Mark Luthy, Walter Kupidlowski, Ray Baaske, Roger Brake, Ricky Rippons, Bill Baker, Robert Bromwell, Roland Webster, Ralph Lewis , Jr. and Elmer Weber.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev.'s Lee Hughart and David L. Kreek officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 388, Hurlock, MD 21643 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
