George Henry Short

August 7, 1926 — May 28, 2018

George H. Short, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Salem on August 7, 1926 and was a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Wilkerson Short.

He attended schools in Vienna. Mr. Short was a carpenter/ farmer and for the last 25 years he had worked at Layton's Farm. He enjoyed building projects for his grandchildren. Mr. Short was a charter member of Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company where he served in many capacities. He was also a lifelong member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church and a member of the Dorchester County Fireman's Association.

He is survived by a daughter Lori O'Connor and husband Michael of Cambridge, three grandchildren Sean O'Connor and fiancé Alexandra Woodard and their daughter Sophia Mae O'Connor of Trappe, Aiden O'Connor and Meghan O'Connor both of Cambridge, three stepsons; Daniel Lee Shorter (wife Gail), Luther Burton Shorter (wife Sharon), Ricky Arnez Shorter, six step grandchildren Lee (wife Bobbi) Shorter, Jason (wife Kim) Shorter, Jenson (wife Courtney) Shorter, Shelly Shorter, Michelle (husband Nick) Shorter Googin, Ricky "R.J." (wife Crystal) Shorter Jr., 12 step great-grandchildren and one step great-great granddaughter, two sisters Barbara Hurley of Salem and Virginia Tolley and husband David of East New Market and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Short is preceded in death by three brothers Roger Short, Sr., William Short, Sr. and Harry Short, four sisters Anna Short, Carolyn Short, Mary Wiggins and Nora Myers.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 11 am at Dorchester Memorial Park with Mr. David Tolley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
