Georgia Mae (Wheatley) Long

Georgia Mae Long, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020 at her home. She was born in Ross Neck on September 10, 1927 and was a daughter of the late John Wesley Wheatley and Laura Pearman Wheatley.

Mrs. Long graduated from Rock Hall High School class of 1944. On February 14, 1948, she married William C. Long, who passed away on September 1, 1991. She owned and operated Long's Grocery Store. She enjoyed fishing, and visiting the shut-ins. Mrs. Long was a past member of the Eastern Star Minerva Chapel 50, where she was Grand Matron. She also volunteered at Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary and was a 50 plus year member of Beckwith United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons Steve Long and Susan of Cambridge and John Long and wife Rhonda of Cambridge, a step son William C. Long, Jr. of Hawaii, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, and her husband, Mrs. Long is preceded in death by a step son Tommy Gray Long, and a sister Dorothy Lane.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beckwith United Methodist Church, c/o Betsy Ewing, 1623 Taylors Island Road, Woolford, MD 21671. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
