Gloria A. Hanft

Gloria A. Hanft, 94, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at her home. She was born in Cumberland, MD on July 9, 1931 to the late John K. Dixon and Desta Willison Dixon.

Mrs. Hanft went to Allegany High School. She spent most of her years as a homemaker and later worked in many different theaters’s including Center Theater, The Strand and the Potomac Drive-In Theater. In her spare time Mrs. Hanft volunteered for Veteran Associations, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. She married Wendell E. Hanft, Sr. who passed away on October 7, 1998. Mrs. Hanft enjoyed traveling the world, and most of all spending time with her family.

Mrs. Hanft is survived by six children, Gloria Jean Mellon and husband Benny of South Carolina, Kenneth Hanft of Frederick, Wendell "Rocky" Hanft and wife Bonnie of Cumberland, Lawrence Hanft and wife Debbie of Hagerstown, Candice Hoffman and husband Howard of Cambridge and Bruce Hanft and wife Sandy of West Virgnia, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Mrs. Hanft is preceded in death by a brother Richard Dixon, and a sister Nancy Ocheltree.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home. P.A. at 10 AM with her son Wendell “Rocky” Hanft officiating and Rev. Howard Hoffman playing music. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
