James L. Wood

James L. Wood, 78, of East New Market passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at his home. He was born in Washington, DC on September 20, 1946 and was a son of the late Hammond and Agnes Bowers Wood.

He graduated from Gaithersburg High School class of 1964. On August 30, 1997 he married the former Sharon Simpson. Mr. Wood worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for 33 years as an Electronic Technician. He enjoyed boating, golfing, croquet, and enjoyed playing his guitar and keyboard and listening to music. Mr. Wood was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Cambridge.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Wood of East New Market, two daughters Ellen Potter and husband Randy of Frederick, MD, and Elizabeth Fisher and husband Nick of Vermont, two step daughters Katie Ward and Gordon of Mt. Airy, MD and Lisa Sutherby and husband Pablo Nunez of Rockville, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 2pm at Grace Methodist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Chris Pettit officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace Methodist Church, P.O. Box 815, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
