James P. Thomas, 90, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on October 14, 1932 to the late Harvey Thomas and Naomi Willey Thomas.
Mr. Thomas graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1949. He went on to serve in the United States Navy Aviation from 1951 to 1955. On July 27, 1952, he married the former Betty Sue Weddle, who passed away on July 23, 2000. On December 6, 2002, he married the former Dorothy J. Stern Thompson, who passed away on June 3, 2011. Mr. Thomas was employed with E.I. DuPont, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed reading. Mr. Thomas was a member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church and AARP.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his son Timothy Thomas and his wife Patricia of Preston; three stepchildren Melanie Crosley and husband Tim of Salt Lake City, UT, Melissa Sterling and husband Dan of Mardela Springs, and Craig Thompson and wife Terri of Mardela Springs; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, and great grandchildren; Tina Russell, whom he loved like a daughter; his special caregiver Tana Cannon; and his sister Shirley Foxwell of Cambridge. Besides his parents and his wives, Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by a daughter Toni Malick and her husband Mike Malick, as well as two sons Michael Thomas and Theodore Thomas, and a great grandson, James Charles Thomas.
Pallbearers will be Adam Thomas, Dominick Thomas, Luke Thomas, Zachary Bowman, Chuckie Foxwell, and Brad Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Thomas, Craig Thompson, Eldred Jones, Danny Cox, Terry Foxwell, and David Thomas.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church at 12 PM with Rev. Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cambridge Wesleyan Church, 801 Race Street, Cambridge, Maryland, or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Maryland 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
