James Radcliffe Jones III

James Radcliffe Jones III, of Cambridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. Born on November 25, 1943, to James Radcliffe Jones, Jr. and Emeline Slacum Jones, he spent nearly his entire life rooted in the place he loved most—Cambridge.

Known to family and friends as “JJ” and “Jimbo” he was raised in Cambridge where he attended and graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1961. After high school, he went on to attend and graduate from Baltimore’s UMBC’s School of Business in 1966. He returned home to his beloved Cambridge where he worked for his uncle at E. Roscoe Willy’s Trucking and Woodyard Co. He then worked for many years at Cambridge Wire Cloth where his work ethic and reliability earned him a variety of roles, including International Export Manager and Marketing Manager. Following in his father’s footsteps, he later served as Caretaker at Pokety Farms, a role well suited to his steady nature and deep appreciation for the land. He later worked for and retired from GKD.

JJ was a man of quiet dignity. He was a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a steady presence for his friends and family. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in the simple things: a good hunt, a plate of local seafood, and time spent tinkering on projects in his backyard workshop. He held memberships in the National Rifle Association, Grand National Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited Association, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Elks. He was particularly proud to be a founding member of the Fruit Hill Farms Hunting Club.

Along with many loyal friends and colleagues, JJ is survived by his wife of sixty years, Carol Winchester Jones of Cambridge, whom he married on January 30, 1965. He is also survived by his son, James Radcliffe “Rad” Jones IV of New Jersey and his fiance’ MJ Johnson; three grandchildren, Jessica Calabrese and her husband Robert, Carly Blaes and her husband John, and Mackenzie Jones; two great-grandchildren, Sonny Jones Calabrese and Kennedy Gail Calabrese; niece, Jamie Stitchberry Hodges and her husband Eric; great-niece Emeline “Eme” Hodges; nephew Scott Stitchberry; Godson David Bromwell and his wife Angie; lifelong family friend and confidant Darren Bromwell and his wife Jeanne.

In addition to his parents, JJ was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Jones Stitchberry, and his brother, William N. Jones.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Jones Family Cemetery on Pig Neck Road in Cambridge, where he will rest among family and in the place he always called home. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
