James W. Higgins, Sr.

James Ward Higgins, Sr., 94, of Hurlock passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at his home. He was born in East New Market on October 26, 1930 and was a son of the late Harry Lee Higgins and Ida Lillian Moore Higgins.

He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1947. Mr. Higgins served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. On January 28, 1955, he married the former Marilyn Malott who passed away on December 27, 2011. He worked for Coldwater Seafood and retired on January 3, 1993. He enjoyed playing softball, jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. He was a past member of the Hurlock American Legion Post 243 and a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers.

He is survived by a daughter Lyndean L. "Lenni" Higgins of Hurlock, three sons Dan L. Higgins, Sr. and wife Dawn of Hurlock, J. Ward Higgins II and wife Cindy of Hurlock and Terry J. Higgins, Sr. and wife Barbara of Hurlock, eight grandchildren Shane Hinson (Erin), Susan Hardison, Alexa Dixon, Danny Higgins II (Diana), David Higgins (Nicole), TJ Higgins, Jared Higgins (Mary), Collin Higgins (Melissa), 20 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Higgins is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 12pm to 1pm at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice.
