Jay A. Knable

Jay Knable, 74, died December 23 rd at his home on the Lodgecliff Canal of the Choptank River on Maryland’s
Eastern Shore. Jay loved his home on the water, his family who he traveled long distances to visit even during
his illness, and his oldest friends. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sommerville, his brother Jeff, and Jeff’s
wife Jeannie along with their three children Andy, Katie and husband AJ, and Chris and wife Tina and son
Miller. Jay was a loving uncle to his niece and nephews, and carefully selected items and photos of his own
both sentimental and valuable to present them with over the years.
Jay grew up in Cleveland, graduated from Bowling Green University, and lived in many places, Vermont being
his longest residence, before retiring to Maryland. He worked for the federal government as an economist and
the State of VT at the Brandon Training School and the Tax Department. He liked to fish and could never have
enough lures, enjoyed working around the house, and late in life set a high bar for baking the perfect peanut
butter cookie. He was generous with his time and spent many years as a volunteer for the Brandon Area Rescue
Squad. He will be remembered as a soft-spoken but valuable member of every community he lived in. There
will be no funeral service. His remains will be cremated.
