Joanne Newton

Joanne Hill Newton, 80, of Cambridge, MD passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023.  Joanne was predeceased by her parents, William and Billie Hill.  Joanne is survived by her husband, Christopher Newton, her daughter Shannon and Kevin Evans, her brother W. Gordon and Debby Hill, her nephew, Cullen Hill and several cousins all living in the Cambridge area.

Prior to retirement, Joanne and her husband purchased and ran a high-end Oriental rug business in Charlotte, NC for eighteen years.  Joanne and Chris sold the business and relocated back to the eastern shore to Cambridge to be closer to the family.

Joanne had a full career which started in the Social Security Administration.  A relocation to southern Florida led to a career in tv/radio broadcasting scheduling commercial spots.  Later, Joanne landed another dream job at Smith Barney helping clients achieve their financial goals.

Joanne had a keen eye for design and attention to detail.  These attributes led her to pursue her interest in interior design, an interest similarly shared by her daughter.  She also enjoyed antiquing and attending the local auctions.

Joanne will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.

A graveside service will be held at the East New Market Cemetery on Monday, November 13 at 2pm, all are welcome.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue or the Kitty City Cat Rescue. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
