John Carl Bechtold, Jr., 96, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at his home. He was born in Baltimore on June 15, 1928 and was the son of the late John Carl Bechtold, Sr. and Carrie Wittsdadt Bechtold.
He graduated from Pattison High School. Mr. Bechtold served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, Rod and Wire Mills at Sparrows Point with 35 years of service. On July 1, 1983 he moved to Cambridge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing. He was a member of the Chorus of the Chesapeake where he was a long standing member, long standing member of Dizzy Pleasure, Masonic Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M. where was past master, past Grand Tall Cedars of Chesapeake Forest #115, member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Boumi Temple, Shriners, American Legion Post #91, and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. He was also the founder of the Travelers Club.
He is survived by a daughter Letha Bechtold Cooke and husband Sean of Maui, and his loving companion of 13 years Betty Cunningham.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Endowment Fund, Cambridge Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M., P.O. Box 791, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
