John "Jackie" Charles Mills

John (Jackie) Charles Mills passed away at his home on May 31, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on September 20, 1943 in Cambridge, Maryland. He was the son of Francis (Jack) D. Mills and Frances Mills Thomas.

He is survived by his twin brother, James Francis Mills (Maya) of Atlanta, Georgia, his brother Larry L. Mills (Diane) of Cambridge, Maryland, his son Jason Mills, grandchildren Joshua Scott Housekecht of Tallahassee, Florida and Ethan Mills, nephew Shane D. Mills (Robyn) and nieces Dr. Meghan L. Mills and Kelsey M. Brooks (Michael). Jackie also left behind his diligent and constant caregiver and pal during his illness, Kevin Kilduff.

Jackie graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. He was recognized as an outstanding athlete participating in football, basketball and baseball. He received the award for “most athletic” in his graduating class. He excelled as a pitcher and signed a professional baseball contract with the minor league system of the New York Mets. John became a recognized welder and sheet metal worker and retired as a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 486. He served in the National Guard. He donated his skills and extensive time to the Cambridge Little League and Babe Ruth baseball league.

Funeral services will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025 with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the East New Market cemetery.
