Marc Cambon Brewton, a resident of Cambridge, MD, died July 17 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, after a battle with esophageal cancer. Marc was a man of tremendous faith in God, a good neighbor who walked his neighborhood each morning prior to his illness collecting litter along the sidewalk to, as he described it, “provide a service to his neighbors.”
Marc was retired and spent a great deal of time volunteering for years at Meals on Wheels in Easton, MD where he was a valued member of the team. He was active in AA where he coordinated speakers, made coffee and did whatever else as needed to support the group. He valued the contribution AA made to his life and valued the friendship he made there.
Marc was born in a suburb of Atlanta, GA on November 29, 1961 to Sharlene Morris Brewton and Barney C. Brewton, both of whom predeceased him.
Marc would want to be remembered as someone who was kind. He took to heart God’s instruction to “love thy neighbor as thyself”. After serving in the US Army in Berlin and at Fort Campbell in the 1980s, he worked at various times in home healthcare, as a prison guard, and in hospitals where his gentleness was appreciated by those he served.
Marc was grateful to his medical team, Dr. Jorge Abrego, Dr. David Smith, and Dr. Michael Moran in Easton, MD, Dr. Bruce Greenwald at the University of Maryland, and to the team at Shock Trauma and ICU at the University of Maryland Hospital.
Marc is survived by his dear friend Margie Elliott of Cambridge, his aunt, Carolyn Morris Ewing, formerly of Easton, cousins Glen Brewton, Justin Brewton, Collin Breton, Trevor Brewton, Camden Brewton and Anna Beth Brewton of Birmingham, AL; Patricia Morris Gibson of Garner, TX; and Karen Morris Boykin and Michelle Morris England of St. Louis, MO.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 12pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Father Tim Kzuthaupt officiating. Family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, Marc would want all those who were close to him to make a donation to the charity of their choice, as there are so many who need help. He left the earth with gratitude for God’s blessings and love for the friends who supported him during his illness.
