Mary E. (Jackson) Moore

Mary Elizabeth Moore, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at her home. She was born in Cambridge on July 31, 1937 and was a daughter of the late Cyril Franklin Jackson and Stella Julia Era Jackson. She was the oldest of 6 children and after her mother’s death she lived with Joseph Era, Jr. and Katherine Era in Secretary along with her cousins Jody, Anthony, Bobby and Beverly Era Simpson.

Ms. Moore attended schools in North Dorchester and graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1956. She operated a home-based ceramics shop offering classes for many years, was the activities director for 20 years at Glasgow Nursing Home, a Childcare assistant at Sunny Day Preschool since August 22, 2011. Ms. Moore was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons Richard W. Moore, Jr. (Jeannine) of Cambridge and Joseph I. Moore (Kim) of Davidsonville, three grandchildren Cavin A. Moore, Henley E. Moore and Joseph I. Moore, Jr., sister in laws Violet Jackson and Peggy Jackson and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Moore is also survived by a special niece Diane Simpson Lyons. Besides her parents, Ms. Moore is preceded in death by a sister Louise Maguire, and four brothers William Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Cyril Jackson and Phillip Jackson.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 12pm at the First Baptist Church will Rev.’s Christopher Colbert and Glenn Swanson officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
