In Loving Memory of Melody Matherly Pearson “Mom and Grammy”
Melody Pearson, born in Warrenton Virginia on June 18, 1960, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2026, on her 66th Birthday. There is something profoundly meaningful in the circle of life that brought Melody’s journey full circle on the very day it began. While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her family finds comfort in imagining her reunited with her beloved mother, whom she missed dearly.
Melody was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished member of her community whose warmth, strength, and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Melody’s greatest joy in life was her family and spending time at the beach. She was the proud and loving mother of Cory Pearson and wife Jessica, and Courtney Pearson Shorter and husband Jenson. Her heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her “Fab Five”. Jasmine, Jayden, Journey Pearson, and MaKenna and Mariah Shorter. They were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her love, guidance, and unwavering support will remain with them always.
Melody leaves behind her children, grandchildren, brother Keith Richardson, extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends to especially include her lifelong best friend J.B. Norman, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her. Melody was preceded in death by her parents William “Eddie” Matherly, Ella “Nana” Matherly, sisters Gail Mills, Kay Smith and her children’s father Michael Wayne Pearson.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Melody’s love lives on in her children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will remain a blessing and an inspiration to her family forever. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well lived, a love well shared, and though we grieve in her absence, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with those who went before her, especially her mother.
Melody’s faith was strong and one of her favorite versus was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”- Philippians 4:13. The family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” ceremony at a later date.
