Michael "Mike" R. Hubbard, 81, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Candlelight Cove in Easton. He was married to the former Cynda Johnson who passed away on March 5, 2023. He was the son of the late Reverend Richard C. Hubbard and Dorothy Byrne Hubbard.
He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1962 and then received his Business Degree from the University of Baltimore. Soon after, he began his career with RJ Reynolds/Chun King and worked for them for 28 years until they closed. He held several positions with them but his time there was marked most heavily by the many life-long friends he made.
After retiring in 1999, Mike spent much of his time on Lecompte Creek in “the skiff” he and his father had built. His love of the water started when he was very young and continued throughout his life. Some of his best times started with the words “Let’s go for a boat ride”. He and Cynda also spent as much time as they could in their RV visiting the mountains of the western United States.
Mike volunteered and contributed to many community organizations including the United Fund of Dorchester, Rotary of Cambridge, the Salvation Army and he served on many committees at Friendship Methodist Church of Aireys.
Affectionately known as “Pop” by his 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, his time spent with them was the joy of his life. Proof of this joy is in the years of Santa Hat pictures he took with them. He loved to watch not just how the kids grew through the years but also how the number of them did.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Hubbard of Cambridge and Shannon Hubbard Collis and husband Justin of Delmar, MD, two stepsons Dr. Michael Lantz and wife Debbie of Annapolis, and Steve Lantz and wife Melissa of Cambridge, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one sister Kathy Abbott and husband Donnie of Cambridge, one nephew Patrick Johnstone, wife Lisa of Pennsylvania, and niece Dr. Jill Colglazier, husband Doug of Minnesota and four great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 12pm at Grace Methodist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Shelley McCollister officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Friendship Methodist Church of Aireys c/o Karol Redline 7 Shady Dr, Cambridge, MD 21613 or Meals til Monday, PO Box 1193, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
