Mildred L. (English) Short

Mildred E. Short, 88, of Hurlock passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 after a lingering illness. She was born on September 9, 1934 in Graterford, PA to Sanford F. English and Maggie H. English.

When she was two, her family moved to Dorchester County. Mildred graduated from Hurlock High School in 1953. She met and married Louis Short. She was a seamstress for many years continuing even after her retirement. Mildred enjoyed traveling, dining out, bingo, playing cards and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Nancy Willey and husband Chuck, Kay Downey, Lisa Thompson, Henry Short, Mark Short and wife Sarah, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, siblings Betty, Franklin, Anna Mae and Joyce and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Patsy Short, grandson Mark Short, Jr., sisters Peggy, Doris, Marie, Barbara, Carol and a brother William “Sonny” English.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Short, Dana White, Derrick White, Ricky Foxwell, David Sharp and Billy Windsor.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
