Noel D. Smith

Noel Day Smith, 85, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born Noel Frances Day on November 30, 1940 in Baltimore City—the first of five children for the late Alan Grafflin Day Jr. and Lillian Prenger Day.

Ms. Smith graduated in 1960 from Eastern High School in Baltimore. She spent many summers on the Eastern Shore, where she met her late husband, Lynn Thomsen Kreeger. After his sudden death, she moved to Easton to raise her two children, Andrea and Terry. There she married the late Harvey Smith Jr., which afforded her the opportunity to stay at home with her children and three step-children, Ruth, Harvey III, and J Carter, into their early adulthood. After her divorce, she managed the salad bar at the ACME in Easton for over a decade. Once she retired, she went on to run a boarding house from her home until 2004. She spent her remaining years in Cambridge helping care for her grandchildren.

Ms. Smith enjoyed classic films and modern blockbusters alike, often connecting with family over movies and stories about the Golden Age of Hollywood. She loved being with her family who affectionately referred to her as “Mema". She will be remembered as a fiery and spirited woman who always shared her matter-of-fact opinions just as openly as she shared her love and humor.

Ms. Smith is survived by her two children: daughter Andrea Kreeger Waters (Mark) of Cambridge, son Terence John Kreeger of Cambridge, four grandchildren: Rachel Renee Waters of Baltimore, Danielle Waters Dayao (Philip) of Hyattsville, Colby Scott Moore of Salisbury, and Kristen Lynn Kreeger of Cambridge (lovingly nicknamed “Sissy” by Ms. Smith), as well as three siblings: Jennifer Day of Timonium, Alan "Buzzy" Day III (Lynda) of Sarasota, FL and Christine Layne (Craig) of Parkersburg, WV. Ms. Smith is preceded in death by her parents, first and second husbands, brother Theodore Day, and step-son J Carter Smith.

A private viewing will be held for immediate family. She will be buried near her first husband at Woodlawn Cemetery in Easton MD. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
