Richard B. Dempster, 90, of Salisbury, MD passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Manokin Rehab in Princess Anne. He was born in Abington, PA on September 29, 1931 and was a son of the late Daniel Mortimer Dempster and Alice Bonsall Dempster.
Mr. Dempster graduated from Abington High School class of 1949 and also graduated from Penn State in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and served as a Military Police Officer. Mr. Dempster worked for Campbell Soup Company with 40 years of service having retired as its Director of International Purchasing. He was a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist. He was also a perpetual student having enrolled in numerous college history courses, enjoyed reading many books on historical events and Hemingway novels and took numerous certification courses through the United States Power Squadrons.
His greatest personal joy was a roadtrip. Whether nearby or cross country he used a real paper map or road atlas for reaching any destination. The landscape that unfolded before him was more interesting and more entertaining than anything an electronic screen had to offer.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ramona Dempster, four children Kimm Applegate, Jeff Dempster, Mark Dempster (Kim), and Anne Wiseman (Bob), 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and two close nephews Daniel Dempster and Robert Dempster. Besides his parents, Mr. Dempster is preceded in death by a son Richard B. Dempster, Jr. and a brother Daniel M. Dempster, Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
