He graduated from Cambridge HS in 1952 and immediately joined the US Navy, serving 3 years in Naval Intelligence. Through the years he owned numerous businesses to include the Bargain Barn in Woolford, MD, Bonnie's Antiques & Collectibles with his wife, Eastern Tree Experts and Dorchester Carpets. He also managed Brohawn Chrysler for his dear friend Lee “Bummy” Brohawn. He finally settled on real estate as a career and bought, sold, built and managed numerous rental properties in Cambridge. He was an avid poker player and played in many locations to include Las Vegas, NV (his favorite), Atlantic City, NJ, Dover and Harrington DE and Aruba.
He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, James, Wayne and Charles and a son in-law, Mark Burton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Bonnie, and 5 children in their blended family: daughters Cynde Parker (and husband David) of Seaford, DE and Cheri Burton of Madison, MD, and sons Kenny (and wife Jackie), Jeff (and wife Sallie) both of Cambridge, MD and Les Eckels (and wife Kara) of East New Market, MD. He leaves 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren to treasure their memories of Pop Pop Bob. He is also survived by several nephews. He will also be missed by his devoted caregivers who got to hear his many stories daily over the last few years.
To honor Bob's wishes, funeral services will be private with burial at the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Talbot Hospice or to your favorite animal rescue. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
