Sara Emily (Newcomb) Smith

Sara Emily Smith, 73, of Cambridge passed away on July 16, 2019 at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury.

She was born in Cambridge on January 7, 1946 to Paul Medford Newcomb, Sr. and Anna Della Newcomb. Sara attended Dorchester County Schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1964.  She also earned her pilots license at the age of 16.

Sara retired in 2011 as an independent contractor with the U. S. Postal Service.  She was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church in Cambridge.  Sara enjoyed family gatherings, camping and completing home projects.

Sara is survived by her son, Clay (Cinda) Howell of Tyaskin, a step daughter Angie Carrier of Cambridge, sisters Virginia (William) Slacum and Paula Wingo of Cambridge, brother Paul "Buddy" (Bonnie) Newcomb, Jr. of Hurlock, granddaughter Amanda (Eric) Everts of Chandler, AZ and three great granddaughters.

Besides her parents, Sara is preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Smith who passed away on June 24, 2019.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10:00 am at Antioch Churchyard. The services will be officiated by Chaplain Joel Beiler. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Antioch United Methodist Church, c/o Kathleen Rhineholt, 2118 Horns Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
