Shirley L. Bell

Shirley L. Bell, 82, of Church Creek passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Talbot Hospice House, just shy of her 83rd birthday. She was born on September 17, 1941 in Woolford, MD and was a daughter of the late Willard J. and Mildred Dixon Linthicum.

Mrs. Bell is a lifelong Dorchester County resident. She attended Dorchester County Schools in Woolford and Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School, class of 1959. She was married to Gerald M. “Jerry” Bell, who passed away on May 4, 2013. They were married for 52 years. She is survived by her son Gerald “Jerry” Bell, Jr. (Karen); her daughter Shelley Bell (Matt); grandson Andrew Bell; granddaughter Sarah Bell; and great grandsons Leo and Luke DiLuzio, as well as her brother Willard J. “Jim” Linthicum, Jr. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Bell is preceded in death by her sister Patricia A. Linthicum.

Mrs. Bell was a seamstress for many years at Rob Roy, Inc. However, her most fulfilling work was found in working in Food Services for the Dorchester County Board of Education, where she was beloved by students. Her love of children expanded in recent years to visits with her young great grandsons, Leo and Luke, who filled her with joy. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Baltimore Orioles, reading, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Bell was a life-time member of Milton Church in Woolford, MD where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and in other various roles. She admired the Christian singer, Matthew West, and his comforting, faith-filled music. Shirley was delighted by a surprise meeting with him at a concert in 2022. The family now remembers her with the lyrics of his song, “Save a Place for Me.”

Mrs. Bell’s joy extended to all who knew her. She is deeply missed.
