Wendell C. Travers, 82, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. He was born in Fishing Creek on September 3, 1943 and was a son of the late Charles Goldsborough Travers and Mary Elizabeth Burton Meekins.
Mr. Travers graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. In 1970, he went to the Police Academy and began his employment with the City of Cambridge, 1974 to 1978 worked for the City of Salisbury, and from 1978 to 1996 worked for the Hurlock Police Department and retired as Chief. He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Church of God.
He is survived by his wife Dianna Travers of Cambridge, a daughter Catherine Neal and husband Eric of Berlin, three granddaughters Megan Travers of Annapolis, Ariel Montgomery of Hawaii and Brianna Montgomery of Cambridge, a grandson Joey Neal of Cambridge, a sister Hilda Retallack of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wendell is preceded in death by a daughter Jessica Travers Montgomery, three brothers Benjamin Travers, Thurman Travers and Emerson "Buddy" Travers, three sisters Sadie Travers, Shirley Willey, Dorothy "Dottie" Heffner and Bessie Cohee.
Pallbearers will be Joey Neal, Megan Travers, Ariel Montgomery, Brianna Montgomery, Kyle Reed, and Gary Burkey. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Retallack, Bobby Jones, and Wayne Travers.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 11am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Scott Lord officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Salvation Army, 200 Washington Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 and Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
