Allen L. "Buzz" Tyler

Allen L. “Buzz” Tyler, 78, of Hebron passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. He was born in Cambridge on December 29, 1942 and was a son of the late Allen Russell Tyler and Willis “Boots” Barnett Tyler.

Mr. Tyler attended elementary and junior high schools in Cambridge and high school at Valley Forge Military Academy. He was fourth Captain Mounted Battalion Commander on the Regimental Staff, Honor Council Board of Governors, Chapel Vestry, New Cadet Detail N.O.C. Detail, Acolytes Guild, Expert Rifle Medal, Chaplains Assistant Medal, and the Captain Pistol Team. After graduation, he joined the Maryland Army National Guard basic training in Fort Jackson, SC and then Advanced Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He went to Officer Training School in Pikesville, Maryland and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Tyler was an officer in 2nd Battalion Company B, 29th Division of the Army National Guard and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

On May 4, 1963, he married the former Charrie Chattin. In 1976, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the Kentucky Governor. Mr. Tyler worked for the family business Allen Tyler & Son Masonry Contractor. He served 4 years apprenticeship and worked as a bricklayer until 1968. After his father’s death, he became president of the family business until he retired. He served on the Board of Directors of The National Bank of Cambridge. In 2004, he opened 3 restaurants in Richmond, VA and ran them until 2020. In his spare time, he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, boating, camping and flying.

He is survived by his wife Charrie Tyler of Hebron, two children Tamara Lee Tyler of Mardela and Allen Edward Tyler and wife Tracy of East New Market, three grandchildren Michael Tyler Spears, Taylor Elizabeth Spears and Allen Devon Tyler and two great grandchildren Aiden and Charlee and two nieces Brenda Hurley and Cindy Atkinson. Besides his parents, Mr. Tyler is preceded in death by a sister Patricia Murphy.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11 am at Christ Churchyard in Cambridge with Rev. Dan Dunlop officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Face mask and social distancing is required.
