Augustus Theodore Waldsachs, III, of Cambridge, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was 79 years old.

Born in Baltimore, MD, on September 3, 1941, he was the beloved son of the late Augustus Theodore Waldsachs, Jr., and Jane Hammond Boyd Waldsachs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Suzan Taylor Dean and brother David Cooper Boyd.

He is survived by his children, Wendy Waldsachs Isett (Clint) of Catonsville and Steven Tilghman Waldsachs (Sara) of Chestertown; sisters Jane Hammond Matthews (Terry Lewis) of Lutherville and Mary Hanna Clodfelter (Wood) of Accident; grandsons Andrew Zachary, James Christopher, and William Lucas of Catonsville; close companion Lisa Crummitt of Cambridge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

A Boy Scout in his youth, Mr. Waldsachs served his country proudly for more than 21 years as a decorated member of the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, and the Maryland Army National Guard. He fought with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in Vietnam and retired from the military in November 1992 as a Staff Sargeant and Squad Leader in the 200th Military Police Company, then based in Salisbury, MD. He retired from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration in 1996 after 28 years of service. After his retirement from the State of Maryland, he continued to serve the community as a civil process server for the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department for 16 years. 

A strong advocate for veterans of all ages, Mr. Waldsachs was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and held a number of active positions with Choptank Memorial Post 7460, including serving as Post Commander from 1997-1998. He was also a lifetime member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and a long-time member of American Legion Post 91.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 12 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD, with Rev. Tonya McClain officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Private interment will take place at the Baltimore National Cemetery in Catonsville, MD, at a later date.
