C. William "Bill" Dayton, Jr.

C. William “Bill” Dayton, Jr., 86, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge on January 12, 1932 and was the son of the late Carlton W. and Mary Koch Dayton.

A Cambridge native, Mr. Dayton lived and was educated and worked in Cambridge most of his life. He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1949. Mr. Dayton served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was an operational crew chief on T-33, F-80, F-86 and F-100 aircraft and was discharged as Staff Sargent from Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955.

Mr. Dayton retired from Phillips Airpax in 1995, serving over 39 years of employment with that company. He had served as supervisor, middle manager and staff assistant.

In addition to boating, Mr. Dayton had a number of hobbies including genealogy, Indian Archaeology in when he participated in several official excavations of Indian sites with the Archeological Society of Maryland and had produced several site reports for that society. He was also an enthusiastic collector of canning and oyster house tokens and cannery memorabilia.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge Elks, American Legion Post 91, Maryland Token and Medal Society, among others.

He was married to the former Yvonne Slacum in 1959 and is survived by his wife and two daughters Susan Kim Hewlett (John) and Tina Jo Dayton all of Cambridge.

A private graveside service was held at Dorchester Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Snip-Tuck, P.O. Box 505, Secretary, MD 21664 or to Kitty City Rescue, P.O. Box 1259, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
