Emmett M. "Buzzy" Gore, Jr.

Emmett M. “Buzzy” Gore, Jr., 73, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020. He was born in Dorchester County on December 3, 1946 and was a son of the late Emmett M. Gore, Sr. and Viola Wroten Wingate.

He attended schools in Dorchester County. Mr. Gore was very proud of being a Veteran of Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Army 1968 to 1970 in Americal Division and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 as a Spec 4 Small Arms repair. On June 15, 2002, he married the former Mary Alice Fisher. Mr. Gore was a waterman and a contracter. He was a lifetime member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. Buzzy was a funny, easy going man who deeply loved his family, his boat, his country, his animals and the Eastern Shore.

He was led to the Lord on June 5, 2014 by a great friend Pop Pop Wooten, who took him down the Roman Road and led him in the Sinner’s Prayer. Mr. Gore would tell you “I’m not in any hurry, but I know where I’m going”.

He is survived by his wife Mary Alice Gore of Cambridge, his children Phyllis Pippin-Gore of Hurlock, Marilyn Snead of Cambridge, Karilyn Gore (Billy Hill) of Delmar, MD, Tiffany Short of Hurlock, Michael Wayne Gore of Hurlock, and John McCauley, who he loved as a son, 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two sisters Betty Paul (Ward) of Cambridge and Barbara Anderson (David) of Berlin, a brother Lee Gore of Cambridge and Steve Papa whom he considered a brother and numerous nieces and nephews and a niece Lisa, that he called his nurse. Besides his parents, Mr. Gore is preceded in death by a son Emmett Gore III, a sister Peggy Louise Simmons and a son in law David Snead, Jr.

Pallbearers will be John McCauley, Billy Hill, Allen Palmer, Jonathan Harrell, William McCauley, and Ethan Prahl.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11. Memorial contributions can be made to the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, 115 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
