George M. "Mitch" Anderson

George M. “Mitch” Anderson, 70, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 at UMSMC at Easton. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on January 1, 1953 and was the son of the late Ray E. and Thelma Holcomb Anderson, but he was raised by his grandparents.

Mitch served in the U.S. Army. He met his partner David Nottingham who passed away on August 2, 2004. Prior to moving to West Virginia, Mitch and David owned a trucking business and traveled the United States. After moving from West Virginia they moved to the Eastern Shore and opened an Antique Store.

Mitch was employed with the Chesapeake Maritime Museum in St. Michaels and at the time of his passing, he was employed with the Dorchester Historical Society in Cambridge.

During the Spring and Summer, you would find Mitch doing his gardening where he enjoyed working in his flower beds and doing yard work. He always said that was his piece of mind. He also enjoyed cooking especially Thanksgiving Dinner for his friends and cookouts on the grill. His favorite holiday was Christmas and he decorated inside and outside which was so beautiful and had friends over on Christmas Eve.

Mitch leaves behind his best friend and companion “Buddy” his precious Labrador. You would always see them going on their many walks. He also leaves behind many friends and his Dorchester Historical Society family.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 6 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. Shelly McCollister officiating. Family will receive friends from 5pm to 6 pm. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 4pm to 6pm at the Dorchester Historical Society. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester Historical Society, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.
