James J. Middleton

James J. Middleton, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born on August 23, 1930 in Royal Oak, Michigan and was the son of the late James C. and Anna Schuenemann Middleton.

Jim graduated from Royal Oak High School class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1954 serving during the Korean Conflict, he was stationed at Wallops Island. On November 30, 1951, he married the former Frances Turner who passed away on May 8, 2007. Jim had worked for John W. Tieder, Western Publishing, and Robinson Chemical Company where he retired in 1990. After retirement, he worked with Thomas Funeral Home from 1990 until his health started to fail in 2019. Jim was a charter board member of the George Todd Foundation. Jim was a charter member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cambridge, American Legion Post #91, and a past member of Cambridge Country Club and the Cambridge Jaycees. Jim enjoyed woodworking, traveling and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by a daughter Wendy Rue and husband Woodrow W. Rue II of Cambridge, a son Gary W. Middleton and wife Beverly of East New Market, grandchildren Jamie O. Middleton and fiancée Cherie Davis of Denton, and Woodrow W. Rue III and wife Brittany of Greensboro, step grandchildren Dana Gore and Richie Saunders, several step great grandchildren, his fiancée Idabelle Neal and her daughter Tammy Neal and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Jim is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Pete Middleton, Mel Middleton, Art Middleton, Hazel Hemming and Doris Reynolds.

Pallbearers will be Woodrow Rue III, Jamie Middleton, Dave Hemming, Keith Turner, Kirk Turner, Kris Turner, and Keith Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be Richie Saunders and Hunter Saunders.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1pm at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with Rev. Mark Tooley and Mr. David Tolley officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O.
