Jane (Cochran) Lanahan

June 1, 1948 — March 1, 2022

Bel Air

Jane Frances Cochran Lanahan, 73, of Monkton, formerly of Bel Air and Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home on Tues., March 1, 2022.

Born in Baltimore on June 1, 1948, she was the oldest child of the late T. Francis and Mary Jane Cochran (nee Leipold).

On October 6, 1989, she had her first date with Leo J. Lanahan, Jr., the love of her life. She frequently told the story of how she prayed “for an orphan with two children” and how God blessed her that way. Although Janie and Leo married on May 19, 1992, October 6 was always their “official” anniversary.

Jane attended grade school at St. John’s in Hydes. She was a 1966 graduate of North Harford High School. Jane worked at the Jarrettsville Pharmacy for 20 years and went on to work for C & P Telephone/Bell Atlantic/Verizon for 21 years until her retirement in 2002. Upon retirement, she and Leo moved to Las Vegas, where they enjoyed six wonderful years until his death on August 30, 2008. In 2010, Janie moved back to Bel Air to be closer to her family and help care for her father. Jane was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, and a former member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church (Hydes), St. Mark Roman Catholic Church (Fallston) and St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church (Las Vegas). She worked as a bookkeeper at St. Ignatius from 2011 until her health began to decline in January 2021.

Jane is survived by the children of her heart, Janel H. Parke (Mitchel) of Cambridge; Craig S. Lanahan (Misty) of Stevensville; her stepsons, Leo J. Lanahan, III (Valerie) of Lutherville and Patrick W. Lanahan (Misty) of Easton. In addition to her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, she is survived by her siblings Thomas F. Cochran, Jr. (Kathy), Rebecca Hedges (Fred), Elizabeth Eastburn (Warren), Margaret Jordan (Wayne), Christopher Cochran (Amy), David Cochran and Jeffrey Cochran (Prem Kumari). Janie is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life mass will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 533 E. Jarrettsville Rd., Forest Hill, Maryland.
