Mary Ellen (MacKerer) Hodgson

Mary Ellen Hodgson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Bayleigh Chase in Easton, MD. Born September 7, 1931, in St. Clair Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Arnold W. MacKerer and Dorothy Ellen (Nell) Purdy MacKerer.  She attended college at Wittenberg University in Ohio.

Mrs. Hodgson, along with her first husband, owned and operated charter boats called “Old Blue” for many years in Ocean City.  She was also a very active volunteer with the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary for almost 40 years.

In 1956 she married the late Marvin M. Foxwell.  Although they divorced in in 1965, the two remained close friends until his death in 2009.  In 1980, she married the late David C. Hodgson.  Mr. Hodgson passed away in September, 2012.

Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Arnold William MacKerer and Peter Styvesant MacKerer along with one nephew, Dr. Milford M. (Mickey) Foxwell, Jr.

Mrs. Hodgson is survived by a brother, Donald Saxon MacKerer and his wife Terry of Knoxville, Tennessee.  She is also survived by three nieces: Blair Scott and husband Richard of Far Hills, NJ, PattiCarol Smith and husband Mike of Cambridge, MD, and Sue Foxwell of Cambridge, MD:  nephews Donald S. MacKerer, Jr. of Fayetteville, GA, Larry Foxwell and wife Kathy of Secretary, MD, and three great-nephews Austin Foxwell and Will Foxwell of Salisbury, MD and Louis Foxwell of Baltimore, MD.

Mrs. Hodgson’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at ACTS Bayleigh Chase in Easton, MD. During Mrs. Hodgson’s stay with them, the entire staff created a loving home and caring atmosphere for her.  She was extremely happy there and her health and well-being thrived.   Her family remains grateful for the dedication and devotion shown to her and all the residents of Bayleigh Chase.

Expressions of sympathy in honor of Mrs. Hodgson can be in the form of money or donated goods to The Robin Hood Shop, 416 High St. Cambridge, MD 21613.  To honor Mrs. Hodgson’s wishes, a private service will be held. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
