Rev. M. Brent Coleman

Reverend M. Brent Coleman, 91, was born on February 10, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Macon J. and Violet (Yergan) Coleman, and died on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Catered Living of Ocean Pines.  He grew up in Cumberland, Maryland and graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1947.  He was a 1952 graduate of Benjamin Franklin University, Washington, D.C., and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, in 1962.

Mr. Coleman was employed as an accountant for the National Radio Institute, Washington, D.C. until accepting the position of general accountant and budget director for the Amcelle Plant of Celanese Corporation of America located in Cumberland, Maryland.  In 1957, he was promoted to Plant Accountant of the Celanese plant located in Bridgewater, Virginia.  While attending seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, he was an accountant with the CPA firm of Compton and Kottke.

While employed at Cumberland’s Amcelle Plant, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as camping and activities director for the Nemacolin District of the Potomac Council, and serving also as Sunday School Superintendent in the Second Baptist Church.

After graduation from seminary, Rev. Coleman held pastorates at the First Baptist Church of Cambridge, Maryland (1962-1975) and the First Baptist Church of Crofton at Crofton, Maryland (1975 – 1997), and was Pastor Emeritus at the Crofton church until his death.  After his retirement in 1997, he held interim pastorates at Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis, Maryland and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Huntingtown, Maryland.

During the active years of his ministry, he served on various boards and committees of the Maryland/Delaware Baptist Convention including Vice-President and preacher of the annual sermon.

Reverend Coleman was preceded in death by Norma Fisher Coleman, his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, and his dear friend.  He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Brent Coleman and his wife Wanda of Denver, Colorado, and Dr. David Keith Coleman and wife Dr.Mary DeCaro of Brigantine, NJ; one daughter Brenda Coleman Trice and her husband the Reverend Stephen Trice, of Ocean City, Maryland.  He had eight grandchildren: Sebastian Trice, Stephen Trice, Elizabeth Cole, D.K. “Skip” Coleman, Corey Trice, Joshua Trice, Erin Coleman, and Conor Brent Coleman.  He also has great-grandchildren: Jack, Caroline, Stella, Sage, Ryan, Abby, Lucy, Gabe, Colt, Jackson, Cate, Henry, Lily, Eli, Savannah, Coleman, and Wyatt.  He is also survived by his brother Robert D. Coleman and wife Doris of Columbia, Maryland, and their children Rob Coleman and Karen Yoder, along with nephews and nieces of his wife Norma Coleman.

Services will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity or to a charity of choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
