Sarah C. (Cheezum) Abbott

January 26, 1925 — December 29, 2018

Sarah C. Abbott, 93, of Hurlock passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Mardela Springs on January 26, 1925 and was a daughter of the late William Harvey Cheezum and Beatrice Chase Cheezum.

Mrs. Abbott graduated in 1942 from Cambridge High School. On May 16, 1943, she married Walter O. Abbott, who passed away on October 7, 1977. Mrs. Abbott was an accountant for Grey Hound and Carolina Trialways for forty years. She enjoyed sewing, reading, painting and traveling. Mrs. Abbott was a 4-H leader, a member of the Women of the Moose and Madison United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four children Sandra Hare and companion Roger Layton of Hurlock, Terry Abbott of Hurlock, Walter Michael Abbott, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Cambridge and Richard Roland Abbott and wife Lisa of Lakesville, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, one brother William Harvey Cheezum of Hurlock, two sisters Dorothy Bradbury and Beatrice Peters both of Oregon and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Abbott is preceded in death by a son Walter Michael Abbott.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 1pm at East New Market Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P. A. in Cambridge.
