Sarah W. (Wadsworth) Schroeder

January 26, 1942 — August 28, 2020

Easton

Sarah Wadsworth Schroeder peacefully passed on August 28th, 2020 in Easton, Maryland.  She was surrounded by her children and family. She was 78.

Sarah was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on January 26, 1942 to parents Corinne Stewart Wadsworth and Edwin Wadsworth. Shortly after Sarah’s arrival, her family moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to be closer to maternal grandparents, Clarence and Mae Stewart. Sarah and her older sister Poinier were soon joined by younger brother Edwin “Clint” Wadsworth. Sarah spent her childhood at her family home Hatton’s Garden just outside of St. Michaels, Maryland.

Sarah was an energetic child, who enjoyed sailing, ice cream, and had a close relationship with both her sister Poinier and brother Clint. She attended the Country School in Easton, and graduated high school from Holton Arms School in Washington, DC. Sarah enjoyed her summers junior sailing on the Tred Avon with friends. After high school, Sarah continued her education and pursued her love of art at the Maryland Institute of Art.

Sarah raised her three children in Cambridge and Easton, Maryland as well as Stockton, California, prior to returning to the Eastern Shore in 1976. She was a dedicated mother and would make up exciting names for ordinary dinners to delight young appetites. Sarah was self-employed and owned SW Painting on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for many years before retiring and relocating to Beaufort, North Carolina.

It is in Easton that Sarah met her love and partner Ernest “Ernie” Schroeder. They were both very active members of the Easton AA community and Sarah received her 41-year pin for sobriety. Sarah and Ernie shared 37 years together living in Easton and most recently in Beaufort, NC. Sarah was very active in Beaufort’s AA community and had many dear friends in her AA family. Sarah and Ernie were always together sailing their boat, adventuring, joining friends for coffee, and riding their motorcycle with a sidecar (including with their dog Oliver!).

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and as of December 2019 her beloved husband. In addition to her brother Clint Wadsworth and wife Lori, Sarah is survived by her children Nathanial “Nat” Evans, Robin Stewart (Evans) Dietz, and Christopher Baker Evans. She was also very close to her four nieces and nephews: Clay (Perry) Garrity, Michael Perry, Lindsay (Wadsworth) Stearns, and Stewart Wadsworth; as well as her six beautiful granddaughters: Samantha, Hannah, Corinne, Julia, Olivia, and Henley.

Giving the difficulties presented by COVID-19, there will not be a service for Sarah at this time. Donations can be made by check with the memo stating “in memory of Sarah Wadsworth Schroeder” to Academy Art Museum, 106 South Street, Easton, MD 21601. Her family would invite you to share your memories and photos with them on Sarah (Schroeder’s) Facebook page.

Sarah modeled her life on the following serenity prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” She will be missed.
