William "Bill" R. Cannon

William R. Cannon, 64, of Fishing Creek passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home. He was born in Aurora, CO on May 12, 1954 and was a son of the late Kenneth Cannon and Joan Shaughnessy Slater.

Mr. Cannon graduated from Cambridge High School. On May 22, 1971, he married the former Judy Short, who passed away on June 21, 2006. Mr. Cannon served and retired from the Army National Guard. He received numerous medals and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, fishing, loved his dog, and military history. Mr. Cannon was a member of the American Legion Post 91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, NRA, and 29th Infantry Division.

He is survived by a daughter Brandy Cannon and companion Joe Krewson of Cambridge and a son William R. Cannon, Jr. and wife Angela of Upperco, MD, six grandchildren Sydney Mooney, Jeffrey Springer, Jr., Kendal Springer, Robby Hardy, Jr., William R. Cannon III and Ciara Cannon, two great grandchildren William R. Cannon IV and Mykel Hardy, brothers and sisters Steve Burns of Washington State, Mike Swann of Hurlock, Paula Abey of Secretary and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Cannon preceded in death by a brother Kenny Lee Cannon, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 2 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park with full military honors. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
